| Background | Thomas Watkins went to Hughesovka with his father, John Watkins, step mother Elizabeth and sisters, Florence and Augusta. While in the Ukraine he met and married Alexandra [?née Podkapaiva]. Alexandra’s sister also married a Welshman, a Mr Williams, possibly another Hughesovka worker. John Watkins died in Russia and was buried there, and the remaining family (including Alexandra’s sister) returned to Wales. Alexandra and her sister kept in contact with their family in the Ukraine.
