BackgroundJohn Hughes established the works and town of Hughesovka in the Ukraine in the 1870s. He settled there with his wife Elizabeth and several of their children. His son Arthur David married Augusta James, and had five children, including Ida and Elizabeth. Elizabeth married Brinsley Nixon, and they had three children. The family returned to the UK in 1917.
DescriptionPhotographs of Hughes family, the Hughes family house, Hughesovka and other places in Russia, and an issue of Kontakt [an information bulletin printed in Donetsk], featuring an article on John Hughes and the welfare provision for employees at the New Russia Company.
