BackgroundDavid Henry Perry was born in 1829 (possibly Essex) and came to the Ukraine in or just before 1879. He ran the iron ore mine at Vechernii Kut (near Krivoi Rog) for the New Russia Company, and handed over management to his son, Charles Henry Perry. He died in 1916, at Krivoi Rog. Charles Henry Perry married Elizabeth Mary (Bessie) James in 1894, at Odessa. Bessie James was the daughter of David and Mary James, who had come to the Ukraine from Llangynwyd in Glamorgan in 1872. Charles and Bessie Perry had four sons and four daughters, all born in the Ukraine.
