Background | Uskside began as a smithy in 1827 at church Street, Newport, later developing products ranging from anchors and chains to colliery engines and winding gear. John Hughes joined the company in the early 1840s from Ebbw Vale.
The Uskside Works were part of the GKN group from 1942 to 1970. The company continues on the original site under the name Newelco, producing electric induction heaters for ,amongst others, steel works in the USSR. |
