| Background | John John of Dowlais went to Hughesovka in 1875 as a blast furnace manager. On a trip home he married 19 year old Sarah John of Penydarren. The couple had four children in Hughesovka, Ann, Joseph, Sarah and John, and returned to Merthyr Tydfil in about 1915. Joseph died at the age of 3 and John was sent to school in Britain. Their father was known as ‘John John Russia’, after the family’s final return home. |
