BackgroundJames Allcock, a roll turner, left Rhymney for Hughesovka in the 1870s. His son, Alfred, followed, later inviting his fiancee, Sarah Jane, to join him. They were married at Odessa in 1884, and their six children were born at Hughesovka. In 1907 Alfred and his family left Russia and settled in Middlesborough.
