BackgroundYstradyfodwg Urban District Council (Glamorgan) was formed in 1896, following the Local Government England and Wales Act 1894. It took over the functions of Ystradyfodwg Local Board of Health. The Council's area of responsibility was the parishes of Ystradyfodwg, part of Llanwonno, otherwise Llanwynno, and a small part of Llantrisant [see attached document for a map showing the area covered]. It was renamed Rhondda Urban District Council in July 1897, and became Rhondda Borough Council in 1955. There are a number of records overlapping the period of change of status from Urban District Council to Borough Council.
